- “Breaches” are grade 2 (requires follow-up) and grade 3 (serious) – what Mattilsynet publishes on its smiley site. Minor remarks (grade 1) are not counted.
- A restaurant counts once in the month, however many inspections or breaches it had; a requirement counts each restaurant once. Places that have closed since are included; places removed at their own request are not.
- “Status today” is the current smiley result of the month’s restaurants as of 7 Oct 2026: a smiling face means a later inspection found no breaches that need follow-up.
- The report is generated from the data and updated with every import; a month is reported once it is over.
